American Idol Season 8

New season of American Idol debuted yesterday in Malaysia and those who are a fan can tune in to Astro StarWorld channel 711, every Wednesday and Thursday at 6pm and repeat on Thursday and Friday at 12.30am.

So, this year, new judge will be joining Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell & Randy Jackson - she is Kara DioGuardi,Grammy-nominated songwriter and also a veteran in the music business. Reports by yourtango.com saying that Kara (pronounced as 'Care-ra') is secretly engaged to a Mike McCuddy.

I wonder who will be joining David Cook, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Taylor Hicks & Jordin Sparks. Since there's already 4 lady winners, so i'm predicting another guy is gonna win this time. HAHAH! Some guy with opera vocals (and still looks sexy like Sebastien Izambard from Il Divo), perhaps? You wish!!

Anyway, here's some of the changes from last season:-

1) This season will quickly move its focus to the potential singers during the earlier stages of the competition rather than "William Hung-like" contestants and "funny auditions".

2) Ken Warwick is the new Executive Producer for the show replacing Nigel Lythgoe who is now moving on with So You Think You Can Dance

3) Idol Gives Back will not return this season due to the ongoing economic crisis and recession, as Idol officials did not feel comfortable asking viewers to donate during these times.

4) The show will now feature a permanent fourth judge — songwriter and record producer Kara DioGuardi.

5) the Wild Card round returns since Season 4.

There will be 36 semi-finalists picked instead of 24 who will be divided into 3 groups of 12. The groups of 12 will perform on Tuesday. At the conclusion of each results show on Wednesday, the male and female semifinalists who received the highest number of home viewers votes for their previous night's performance will instantly become a Top 12 finalist. In addition, another semifinalist that had received the next-highest number of votes after the performance episode — regardless of whether he or she is male or female — will also become a finalist.

In the wild card round, the next highest finishers plus other eliminated semi-finalists will return for one more chance to compete. The judges will pick the 3 performers left that they consider the best. No voting by the public will be done at this stage.

I saw the show's first audition last night on TV and it was repeated the next 2 hours at 8pm. Few interesting contestants were seen such as the 'bikini girl' Katrina Darrell, the blind guy - MacIntyre - seriously i thought he was related to Joey McIntyre from NKOTB, the bubbly contestant - can't remember what her name was, the roughnecker, the smart dork who can't sing God Save the Queen and few others.
